Penei Sewell named NFL's best player aged 25 or under
Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell has been named the top NFL player aged 25 or younger in an anonymous poll of coaches, scouts, and front-office members conducted by The Athletic. Sewell, a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro, is expected to transition from right tackle to left tackle for the 2026 season following the release of Taylor Decker.
While Sewell's elite status is widely recognized, Pro Football Focus analyst Gordon McGuinness noted potential concerns regarding the Lions' offensive line heading into 2026. McGuinness highlighted that while Sewell has maintained high production, his transition to left tackle will be a key factor to monitor, specifically regarding his pass protection compared to his historically dominant run blocking.
Other top performers in the under-25 poll included Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter in second place and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers in third.
