Pengambengan Fishing Port development receives Rp 1.2 trillion investment
The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has allocated at least Rp 1.2 trillion to develop the Pengambengan Nusantara Fishing Port (PPN) in Jembrana, Bali. The project, which recently held its groundbreaking ceremony, is designed as an integrated facility encompassing an international fish market, industrial zones, and tourism support, rather than a traditional fishing hub.
Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that the investment will be implemented as a single large-scale package to ensure the port becomes a modern, well-organized facility. The development aims to create approximately 25,000 jobs once operational. The decision to focus on Pengambengan stems from the limitations of Benoa Port, which the Ministry intends to redirect toward tourism and mangrove conservation.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster expressed optimism that the project will boost the regional economy and improve the welfare of local fishermen. The initiative aligns with the ‘Ekonomi Kerthi Bali’ concept, which seeks to diversify the province's economy beyond tourism by strengthening sectors such as organic agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, and creative industries.
