Penghu authorities investigate child welfare case in Huxi

The Penghu County Government has launched an investigation into a case in Huxi Township involving a family of 13 children living in a cramped, 10-ping (approximately 33 square meter) house. The situation came to light after it was reported that the mother had left the home eight months prior, taking with her the family's identification documents and bankbooks used for social welfare subsidies.

Following the exposure, eight underage children were found living in poor conditions, relying on neighbors and charities for meals. The Penghu County Government stated they will conduct individual risk assessments for each child to determine if emergency protection or relocation under the Child and Youth Welfare and Rights Protection Act is necessary. Health officials have conducted medical examinations on the children, finding their health status to be generally stable.

The mother has reportedly returned to the residence and posted a handwritten notice on the door. In the message, she stated, "I am the mother myself, thank you for the public's concern, I love my children very much, our food is sufficient, please return our original peaceful life."
