Edmonton Oilers trade Spencer Stastney to Pittsburgh Penguins for Filip Hallander
The Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins have completed a depth trade, with Edmonton acquiring forward Filip Hallander in exchange for defenseman Spencer Stastney.
Edmonton General Manager Stan Bowman stated the move addresses a shortage of forwards caused by recent injuries to several players. Hallander, a 26-year-old Swedish forward, has recorded three points in his first two games this season with Pittsburgh. The trade is viewed as a lateral move for Edmonton, utilizing defensive depth to bolster their forward corps.
For Pittsburgh, the acquisition of Stastney provides a cost-controlled defenseman signed through the 2026-27 season with an average annual value of $1.525 million. Stastney, 26, has appeared in 117 career regular-season games and brings experience from his time with the Nashville Predators and the Oilers.
