Peniche hosts WSL MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal
The World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour arrives at Supertubos beach in Peniche, Portugal, for the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal. The event, scheduled from October 16 to October 25, serves as the tenth and penultimate stage of the main circuit.
Portuguese representation is significant this year with five local surfers competing: Yolanda Hopkins, Francisca Veselko, and Teresa Bonvalot in the women’s division, alongside Frederico Morais and Guilherme Ribeiro in the men’s division. Hopkins enters the event ranked 14th globally, while Veselko competes via an organizational invitation and Bonvalot enters as a substitute for the injured Isabella Nichols.
In the men’s division, Brazilian surfer Ítalo Ferreira, currently ranked third in the world, is a key figure as he pursues his second world title. The competition window is subject to sea conditions, with swell forecasts suggesting potential improvements around October 19. The event is expected to influence the final standings for the world championship title.
