Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem received a massive 16-minute standing ovation at the 83rd Venice Film Festival for the premiere of their new psychological thriller, ‘Bunker’. Directed by Florian Zeller, the film follows a married couple whose relationship is tested when an architect accepts a morally ambiguous project to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire.

During the emotional premiere, Cruz was seen breaking into tears as the audience applauded. The film, which also stars Stephen Graham, Paul Dano, and Patrick Schwarzenegger, has been noted as one of the most enthusiastically received premieres of this year’s festival.

Beyond the cinematic success, the actors used the platform to discuss their responsibility as public figures. Both Cruz and Bardem defended their decision to speak out on political and social issues, including support for Palestine, stating that it would be ‘contradictory’ to star in a film addressing ethical dilemmas while remaining silent on real-world crises.
