Penélope Cruz attends Toronto premiere of ‘La Bola Negra’

The Spanish film ‘La Bola Negra’ (The Black Ball) held its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, featuring a red carpet appearance by Oscar winner Penélope Cruz and directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, known as Los Javis.

Inspired by the work of poet Federico García Lorca, the film is a queer epic that connects the lives of three men across different eras: 1932, 1937, and 2017. The narrative explores themes of desire and romance set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War and modern times. The production follows a successful run at the Cannes Film Festival, where Los Javis won Best Director, leading to Netflix acquiring the U.S. distribution rights.

Penélope Cruz drew significant attention for her appearance in a white feathered couture gown by Tamara Ralph. Additionally, the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences announced that ‘La Bola Negra’ has been selected to represent Spain in the Best International Feature Film category.
