Penn State coaches target improvements to running game

Penn State offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser and head coach Matt Campbell have addressed recent struggles with the team’s running game following the first two weeks of the season. Mouser expressed dissatisfaction with the ground game's current performance, stating that he is “less than thrilled” and believes there is significant room for growth.

Mouser noted that the issues extend beyond individual players, citing execution and detail as primary concerns. He defended running back Carson Hansen, emphasizing that the offensive scheme has not yet properly showcased Hansen’s abilities. Hansen also acknowledged the need for personal accountability, noting the necessity to improve yardage after contact and red-zone efficiency.

Despite the struggles on the ground, the Penn State offense has maintained a high scoring average of 36 points per game. Quarterback Rocco Becht has performed strongly, recording seven touchdowns and zero interceptions through the opening two games.
