Illinois defeats Michigan State 38-37 in overtime thriller
The Illinois Fighting Illini football team secured a 38-37 overtime victory against the Michigan State Spartans at Spartan Stadium. The game was marked by significant momentum shifts and injuries.
Illinois established an early lead, but Michigan State mounted a comeback in the second half to tie the game in the final minutes. During the contest, Illinois quarterback Katin Houser left the game due to a hand injury. Freshman Michael Clayton II replaced him and led the offense, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Hudson Clement on the first play of overtime.
Michigan State's defense failed to stop the overtime touchdown and subsequently fell short on a two-point conversion attempt. The Spartans' loss brings their record to 2-4, while Illinois moves to 3-3. The game also highlighted growing injury concerns for the Michigan State defense, which saw multiple players, including linebacker Jordan Hall, exit the game.
