Penn State football prepares for season with roster rotation and player trust

Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell is preparing for the season opener against Marshall, emphasizing a strategy of roster rotation and player trust. Following significant roster transitions, including 24 transfers from Iowa State, Campbell noted that the team will rely on a wide variety of players to maintain health and depth.

Campbell highlighted 'trust' as a core value for his program, stating that players must demonstrate the ability to do things correctly both on and off the field to earn playing time. The team's performance in non-conference games against Marshall, Temple, and Buffalo will serve as a precursor to their Big Ten schedule, which begins on September 27 against Wisconsin.

Sophomore defensive end Alexander McPherson, a transfer from Colorado, has focused on physical improvements during the offseason. After gaining approximately 20 pounds through Penn State’s nutrition and lifting programs, McPherson reported feeling significantly stronger while maintaining his previous speed.
