Penn State football undergoes major roster overhaul under Matt Campbell

Penn State head football coach Matt Campbell has overseen a significant roster overhaul, welcoming 62 newcomers to the program. This group consists of 40 transfers and 22 freshmen. Notably, 24 of these transfers joined from Iowa State, where Campbell previously coached. The roster also features several players from UCLA, including defensive tackle Siale Taupaki, who played seven seasons at UCLA before joining the Nittany Lions.

Campbell’s coaching staff also reflects diverse backgrounds, with members having previously held positions at eight different schools, including USC, UCLA, Northwestern, and Boston College.

In addition to roster changes, Campbell has maintained personal connections within the football community. He recently consulted with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, a former college roommate. Campbell noted that Sirianni serves as a valuable sounding board for navigating the challenges of head coaching.
