Penn State restructures Greek life recruitment timelines

Penn State University has restructured its Greek life recruitment timelines for the fall semester. Under a new delayed-fall recruitment model for the 2026-2027 academic year, nine fraternities and sororities will open recruitment to first-year students this semester, whereas most organizations will continue to recruit in the spring.

A significant change in this policy is the removal of previous credit requirements. Previously, freshmen generally needed to complete at least 14 credits to participate, often delaying recruitment until their second semester. With these requirements removed, first-semester freshmen can now participate in recruitment for chapters that have elected the delayed-fall option.

Participating organizations include three Intrafraternity Council chapters (Alpha Kappa Lambda, Alpha Rho Chi, and Sigma Nu), four Multicultural Greek Council organizations (Alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Delta Sigma Iota, Sigma Lambda Beta, and Sigma Omicron Pi), and two organizations through the Panhellenic Council (Omega Phi Alpha and Sigma Alpha).

To participate, students must be enrolled full-time at University Park, complete an online information session, and maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA if they have an established Penn State GPA. Additionally, participating chapters must adhere to increased health and safety training and are prohibited from holding social events during the recruitment period.
