Penn State students arrested in alleged fraternity cocaine ring

Fourteen individuals, including current and former Penn State University students, have been arrested in connection with a large-scale cocaine trafficking operation. According to the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, the network allegedly used Snapchat and various cash-transfer applications to facilitate the sale and distribution of cocaine.

Prosecutors describe a structured hierarchy within the ring, involving suppliers, distributors, and fraternity members who allegedly weighed, packaged, and delivered the drugs. Agostino Abbatiello, a 24-year-old Sigma Chi member, has been identified by authorities as a central figure in the operation and was denied bail following his arraignment. Attorney General Dave Sunday noted that for some fraternity pledges, the act of cutting and packaging cocaine served as a form of indoctrination.

Former Penn State trustee Anthony Lubrano expressed frustration regarding the university’s preparedness to handle the scandal, noting that the institution has faced previous high-profile crises involving student conduct. While the university's current board of trustees has not yet commented, Lubrano suggested the incident provides an opportunity for the institution to demonstrate leadership through its response.
