Penn State wrestlers prepare for world and domestic competitions

Two incoming and returning Penn State wrestlers are set for significant international and domestic competitions.

Jayden James, a freshman Nittany Lion, will compete in the United World Wrestling U20 World Championship freestyle competition in Bratislava, Slovakia. Representing the United States in the 74 kg weight class, James is scheduled to begin his qualifying rounds on Saturday, August 22, 2026. His opening bout is slated against Slovakian wrestler Samuel Vokal.

Masanosuke Ono, a Japanese Senior World champion who recently committed to Penn State, is returning to U.S. competition. Ono is scheduled to wrestle at the Real American Freestyle RAF12 event in Cleveland, Ohio, against Ohio State’s Ben Davino. This marks Ono’s first competitive appearance in the United States since February 2025, following a period of injury recovery and international competition in Japan.
