Ho Chi Minh City authorities address school closures and suspensions

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is addressing two separate incidents involving the sudden closure or suspension of educational facilities.

PennSchool's 3/2 campus in Hoa Hung Ward was forced to close on August 24, the scheduled start of the school year, after the facility's lease at the former Lao Student Dormitory was terminated. Approximately 500 students were affected, with the school temporarily arranging for them to attend a different location on Tran Binh Trong Street. Many parents have expressed frustration, with some seeking to withdraw their children and request tuition refunds due to the sudden change in location and the lack of a permanent facility.

Separately, the Department of Education and Training has ordered the Hoa Sen Secondary and High School (Campus 2) to cease all enrollment and educational activities. This decision follows reports regarding improper fee collection practices. The school has been instructed to develop a plan to transfer its approximately 700 students to qualified institutions or refund all collected fees. The school principal has expressed agreement with the directive but noted that relocating hundreds of students and staff will require additional time.
