Pennsylvania and Indiana State Police Publish Independence Day Traffic Crash Data

The Pennsylvania State Police reported that, over the July 3‑5 Independence Day weekend, 635 crashes were investigated, resulting in 128 injuries and six fatalities. Intoxicated driving was a factor in 55 crashes, three of which were fatal, and 303 drivers were arrested for DUI. Troopers issued 15,567 citations, including 4,034 for speeding, 541 for seat‑belt violations, 97 for unsecured child seats and 4,034 other offenses.

During the same period, Indiana’s Troop A conducted 215 traffic stops, made six DUI arrests and issued 178 citations plus 145 written warnings. Speeding accounted for 94 citations; one citation and five warnings were for seat‑belt violations. Officers investigated four crashes, none fatal or DUI‑related, with one hit‑and‑run case.

Both releases are part of each state’s effort to improve roadway safety during the holiday weekend.
