Pennsylvania Democrats pursue legislative trifecta while state battles federal mail‑ballot rule changes

Democrats in Pennsylvania are targeting control of both the state House and Senate, a "trifecta" that would give Governor Josh Shapiro a unified government to advance his agenda on the budget, mass‑transit funding, energy policy, voting laws and public education. Shapiro said the state has managed to find compromise without compromising core values.

At the same time, Pennsylvania joined a coalition of states asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block a Trump administration effort to impose new federal requirements on mail‑in voting. The administration’s emergency request would revive portions of an executive order that mandates federal verification of voter eligibility and new USPS procedures for ballot handling. State officials warned the plan could cause confusion and disenfranchise voters. "Preparation for the general election is well underway, including having already purchased envelopes," said Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluestein.
