Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announces lake drawdowns and trout stocking

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has initiated water drawdowns at Ford's Lake in Lackawanna County and Rose Valley Lake in Lycoming County. These drawdowns are necessary to prepare for major dam infrastructure rehabilitation projects designed to meet state safety standards.

The $3.1 million project at Ford's Lake involves reinforcing the dam embankment and spillway, with construction expected to begin in spring 2027 and conclude in fall 2028. The $5.9 million Rose Valley Lake project includes constructing a new spillway and embankment improvements, with construction slated for summer 2027 and completion in spring 2029.

Separately, the PFBC is launching its fall and winter trout stocking program on October 1. Approximately 114,700 adult Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout will be released across 117 stream sections and lakes throughout the state between October and mid-December.

Anglers are reminded that Pennsylvania’s extended trout season is active through February 14, 2027, and that cold-weather life jacket requirements go into effect on November 1.
