Pennsylvania Game Commission launches live Elk Cam

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is set to reactivate its “Elk Cam” on Saturday, streaming live video and audio of the state’s elk herd from the heart of the Elk State Forest, a 220,000‑acre wildlife area. As the elk rut approaches, bull elk will begin bugling to attract females, and the feed will run until the first elk firearm season begins on Oct. 3.

Division Chief for Conservation Education and Social Science Jason Beale said the cam “connects people across the Commonwealth and beyond” and highlighted the work of biologists, habitat managers, game wardens and partner agencies in conserving elk habitats. Pennsylvania’s elk population, once extinct in the late 1860s, was re‑established after the commission released nearly 200 elk between 1913 and 1926; today more than 1,000 elk roam the state’s mountains.
