Pennsylvania high school football coach Ed Dawson dies during game

Ed Dawson, a longtime football coach at Cornell High School in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, died Friday night following a medical emergency during a game against Rochester.

During the second quarter, Dawson informed an assistant coach that he was not feeling well and sat on the bench. His condition worsened, and he eventually collapsed on the sideline. Emergency responders performed CPR for several minutes before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The game was ended early with Cornell leading 16-6.

Cornell High School Superintendent Dr. Aaron Thomas described Dawson as an integral part of the school district, stating the community is “heartbroken, crushed, and in shock.” Dawson had coached at Cornell since 2011, leading the team to its first conference title and outright conference championship during his tenure.
