Pennsylvania historical organizations receive state grants

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission has awarded state grants to various museums and historical organizations to support the preservation of Pennsylvania history. As part of a larger distribution of nearly $4 million to 182 institutions across 60 counties, several organizations in Berks, Mercer, and Lawrence counties received funding.

In Berks County, seven organizations were awarded a combined $210,000. Notable recipients include the Reading Public Museum and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, both of which received the maximum grant amount available. Other recipients include the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust, and the Berks History Center.

In Mercer and Lawrence counties, historical societies each received $9,500. The Mercer County Historical Society, which manages a museum complex including the Dr. James Magoffin House, will use the funds to maintain its collections and facilities. The Lawrence County Historical Society will utilize its grant to offset operating expenses, such as utilities, to ensure proper maintenance of its historical assets.
