Pennsylvania introduces toolkit for on-demand mail ballot voting

The Pennsylvania Department of State has released a new toolkit to assist county election offices in managing on-demand mail ballot voting for the upcoming General Election. The toolkit features a streamlined application that allows registered voters to request, receive, complete, and return a mail ballot in a single visit to a county election office or designated location.

In Allegheny County, the mailing of approximately 120,000 mail ballots is scheduled to begin this weekend. To expand voting access, the county has approved five satellite election offices and multiple ballot drop-off locations. These satellite offices allow voters to complete the entire mail-in process in one trip. Specific locations include the Community College of Allegheny County, North Park Ice Rink, and South Park Ice Rink, among others.

Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt noted that the on-demand process facilitates voter convenience by allowing the entire transaction to occur during one trip. For the November 3 election, completed mail ballots must be received by the county election office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day; a postmark alone is not sufficient to meet the deadline.
