Pennsylvania Issues $100 Utility Credit to 193,000 Low‑Income Households

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is automatically providing a one‑time $100 supplemental payment to roughly 193,000 low‑income households that received assistance through the Low‑Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) during the 2025‑2026 season. To qualify, a household must include at least one member who is disabled, aged 60 or older, or a child under six years old. Payments are sent directly to the utility company or home‑heating fuel vendor that received the original LIHEAP grant and do not require any additional application.

The supplemental credit is funded by leftover federal LIHEAP money from the 2025‑26 operational year and is provided as a grant, meaning recipients do not have to repay it. According to Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh, the aid will not affect eligibility for the upcoming 2026‑27 LIHEAP season. The 2025‑26 season had helped more than 278,000 Pennsylvania households cover winter heating costs before closing on May 8, 2026.
