Pennsylvania lawmaker proposes new regulations for gun stores
Pennsylvania State Representative Christopher Rabb has announced plans for the 'Establishing the Firearms Dealer Accountability and Modernization Act,' a legislative effort aimed at regulating the 'supply side' of gun violence.
The proposed law would require federally-licensed firearms dealers (FFLs) in Pennsylvania to undergo annual inspections conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police. Additionally, the bill would mandate the reporting of lost or stolen firearms and provide grants to assist dealers with operational modernization and to fund the training of state police inspectors.
Rabb noted that Pennsylvania currently has nearly 3,000 licensed gun dealers. He also referenced a 2023 bill, HB 1852, which proposed stricter measures such as requiring dealers to photograph the license plates of vehicles and the driver's licenses of purchasers, as well as implementing a $500 daily fine for failing to report stolen firearms.
Similar legislative efforts have been introduced in Michigan by State Senator Stephanie Chang, through bills SB 853 and SB 854, which seek to impose comparable requirements on gun stores in that state.
