Pennsylvania health officials have reported two measles-associated deaths in Lancaster County, marking the first such fatalities in the state in 35 years and the first in the U.S. in 2026. While state health officials classified the deaths as measles-associated, Lancaster County Coroner Steve Diamantoni stated that an autopsy of one deceased infant indicated the cause of death was a ruptured or lacerated spleen rather than measles, although the infant had tested positive for the virus. The investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.
