John Fetterman sees surge in Republican favorability in Pennsylvania

A recent poll conducted by the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Siena University reveals a significant shift in political sentiment in Pennsylvania regarding Senator John Fetterman. The data shows that Fetterman has experienced a dramatic realignment in his favorability ratings between political parties.

According to the survey, 73% of Pennsylvania Republicans view Fetterman favorably, a substantial increase from 25% in 2024. This rating exceeds the 63% favorability held by the state’s Republican Senator, David McCormick. Analysts attribute this trend to Fetterman’s centrist positioning, his hawkish stance on Israel, and his frequent criticisms of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing.

Conversely, Fetterman’s popularity among Democrats has declined sharply. His favorability among registered Democrats in the state fell from 74% in May 2024 to just 22% in August 2026. While his standing with independents remains relatively stable at 49%, the inversion of support between Republicans and Democrats has fueled speculation regarding his future political affiliation, though Fetterman has denied plans to leave the Democratic Party.
