Penrith Panthers pause Liam Martin contract talks

The Penrith Panthers and back-rower Liam Martin have agreed to pause contract extension negotiations until after the conclusion of the current season. Martin, 29, is reportedly seeking a three-year deal that would keep him with the club until the end of 2030.

Negotiations have been delayed as the club manages its star-studded roster and focuses on a premiership pursuit. The specific financial terms of Martin's potential offer remain uncertain because superstar halfback Nathan Cleary has not yet entered meaningful extension talks. Meanwhile, co-captain Isaah Yeo is reportedly close to securing a deal beyond 2027.

Martin’s manager, Allan Gainey, stated that both parties wish to avoid distractions during the upcoming finals series, expressing confidence that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached once the 2026 season commitments are complete.
