Pensión 65 users preserve traditional customs in Puno

Over two thousand participants from the Pensión 65 program recently engaged in cultural preservation activities across three districts in the Puno region of Peru. Through the ‘Saberes Productivos’ initiative by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), elderly citizens organized events to share traditional knowledge and customs with younger generations.

In Huancané, delegations showcased skills in gastronomy, crafts, weaving, and traditional dances. In Pisacoma, located in the Chucuito province, participants engaged in traditional games such as spinning tops and kite flying, followed by a futsal tournament. In Pichacani, the program hosted the VII Saberes Productivos Encounter, featuring hoop races, spinning contests, and regional dances.

Minister of Development and Social Inclusion Maritza Canales stated that the program, in coordination with local governments, will continue to promote spaces for the participation and recognition of older adults to reaffirm their role as sources of wisdom and experience in society.
