Pension adjustments implemented in North Macedonia and Switzerland

In North Macedonia, over 300,000 pensioners have received a 3 percent increase in their pensions, resulting in adjustments ranging from 400 to 1,500 denars. This follows previous linear increases of 2,500 denars each. However, many recipients have criticized the adjustment, stating that the additional funds are insufficient to cover basic living costs, such as medicine, utilities, and household expenses.

In Switzerland, the Federal Council has approved an average increase of 1.59 percent for old-age and disability pensions. Starting in January 2027, the minimum monthly pension for a single person with a full contribution period will rise from 1,260 to 1,280 Swiss francs, while the maximum pension will increase from 2,520 to 2,560 Swiss francs. The government estimates the total additional cost for these adjustments will be approximately 1.055 billion Swiss francs.
