Montenegrin pensioners demand guarantees amid economic reforms

The Pensioners' Movement of Rožaje and Bijelo Polje has called on Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the government to provide concrete guarantees for the protection of retirees within the proposed ‘EURO model’. While the movement supports wage increases for employees, it rejects economic progress that fails to ensure a dignified life for those who have contributed to the pension system for decades.

The group is demanding that the government publicly guarantee the regular and sustainable adjustment of pensions to the rising cost of living to prevent the loss of purchasing power. They are also calling for a detailed financial model, including revenue and expenditure projections, before any decisions are made regarding the potential abolition of pension and disability insurance contributions. Furthermore, the movement requests an official dialogue to include retiree representatives in decision-making processes and an assessment of how the ‘EURO model’ will impact the standard of living for low-income pensioners.
