Pentagon adds Chinese tech giants to military support list, China protests

The U.S. Department of Defense updated its list of companies it says support the Chinese military, adding major Chinese firms such as e‑commerce platform Alibaba, search engine Baidu, electric‑vehicle makers BYD and NIO, and solar panel manufacturers Trina Solar and JA Solar. The move reflects Washington’s security concerns amid intensifying U.S.–China rivalry.

China’s Ministry of Commerce responded that it is “very dissatisfied” and strongly opposes the decision, urging the United States to halt the practice and return to constructive bilateral relations. The Ministry warned that unfair treatment of Chinese firms could provoke a decisive and forceful response.

Under U.S. law, the Defense Department will be barred from entering direct contracts with listed companies or purchasing their products through intermediaries until 2027.
