Formally awarded on September 25, 2026, the five-year agreement includes two option years and is part of the ‘Arsenal of Freedom’ initiative aimed at expanding U.S. munitions manufacturing and replenishing stockpiles depleted by global conflicts.

The contract is a joint investment involving the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, and international partners through the Foreign Military Sales program. The goal is to increase annual production to at least 1,900 missiles, nearly doubling previous output levels. RTX reported that production in 2025 was expected to be approximately twice the 2024 volume.

While the deal provides long-term planning visibility for manufacturers to invest in facilities and supply chains, industry executives noted that Congress has not yet appropriated the full funding required to support the entire multiyear commitment. This funding is essential for contractors to invest at scale in components and infrastructure.
