Pentagon directs end of ‘Operation Epic Fury’ designation

The Pentagon has instructed military public affairs personnel to cease using the term ‘Operation Epic Fury’ when referring to U.S. operations against Iran. An internal Air Force email directed staff to instead use broader terminology, such as ‘overseas operations in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility.’

Defense Department officials stated that Operation Epic Fury officially concluded on May 5, a date aligned with public comments made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Subsequent military actions have been characterized as Freedom of Navigation operations and strikes aimed at reducing threats to commercial shipping and American forces posed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The shift in terminology has raised questions regarding military record-keeping and oversight, particularly because some casualty postings in July were initially attributed to the now-concluded operation.

In the broader context of the ongoing conflict, economic indicators suggest the impact has not been as severe as some initial predictions. While the conflict has lasted longer than originally anticipated, certain markets and economies have shown unexpected resilience despite fluctuations in utility costs and inflation.
