The Pentagon updated its Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) on Saturday, adding more than 140 newly wounded service members and restoring the four soldiers killed in recent Iranian attacks. A new DCAS category called “Overseas Operations” was introduced for casualties dated from July 7.

When the new data are combined with the totals from Operation Epic Fury, the United States has lost 18 troops and 624 have been wounded since the conflict began on 28 February. The prior peak of wounded reported by CNN was 482. Twelve Democratic senators sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth asking why the numbers changed, and acting Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez said the changes resulted from temporary data disruptions on the DCAS website. The four restored deaths include three soldiers killed in Jordan on 17 July and one soldier killed in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone. The July 7 start date coincides with President Donald Trump’s War Powers notification that a new phase of the conflict had begun.
