Pentagon reports 861 U.S. military personnel wounded in Iran conflict

The Pentagon has updated its official casualty figures, reporting that a total of 861 United States military personnel have been wounded since the start of the conflict with Iran. The latest update includes 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines.

According to defense data, 418 service members were injured during ‘Operation Epic Wrath,’ which began on February 28, 2026. Following the official end of that operation on May 5, the Pentagon began categorizing subsequent injuries under ‘foreign operations.’ This newer category accounts for 443 wounded and five deaths.

While a memorandum of understanding was signed in June to establish an immediate ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the agreement was disrupted. The United States resumed large-scale strikes against Iran on July 8, alleging violations of the agreement regarding the strait. Official records currently list 19 American military deaths, though some reports suggest additional fatalities may not yet be reflected in the public database.
