Pentagon revokes security clearance amid Air Force One controversy

Reports indicate that Donald Trump utilized a decoy aircraft during his return from a NATO summit in Turkey in July. While the administration claimed he used the former Air Force One for personal preference, investigations suggest he was secretly shuttled via a catering truck to a smaller Air Force C-32A to avoid using a newer Boeing 747-8 gifted to the United States by Qatar.

The decision to switch planes reportedly stemmed from security concerns regarding the Qatari-donated aircraft, which lacked the necessary secure communications and military defenses required to manage potential conflicts, such as escalating tensions with Iran. Former Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall previously noted that the gifted plane had significant shortfalls compared to standard Air Force One specifications.

In response to the controversy, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has revoked the security clearance of Frank Kendall. The Pentagon alleges that Kendall leaked classified information regarding the capabilities of the aircraft, a charge Kendall has denied, stating he has been careful not to reveal any classified details.
