Pentagon signs seven-year deals to boost Patriot and THAAD production
The Pentagon has entered into seven-year framework agreements with Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics to significantly expand the production of critical missile interceptors. These deals aim to address depleted stockpiles resulting from military engagements, including defense against Iranian strikes.
The agreements target a tripling of production capacity for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptors and a quadrupling of capacity for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors. General Dynamics will focus on scaling the production of essential subcomponents, such as motor cases, seeker housings, midsections, and shroud deployment systems.
Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey stated that the move is intended to cut red tape and rapidly scale domestic manufacturing capacity. While these long-term agreements provide manufacturers with greater investment certainty, the actual funding remains subject to annual congressional appropriations.
