Pentagon launches Project Meridian to study future warfare with Elon Musk

The Pentagon has announced Project Meridian, a new initiative designed to study the future of warfare. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth introduced the project, which aims to examine advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous weapon systems.

Elon Musk will serve as a co-chair for the project, marking his return to an official advisory role within the U.S. government. He will lead the effort alongside Palmer Luckey, co-founder of Anduril Industries, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The initiative seeks to shift defense research away from centralized, slow-moving procurement cycles toward a model focused on rapid software iteration and technological innovation.

The project team is expected to present its findings and recommendations within 120 days.
