Pentagon to establish submarine component repair center in Cleveland
President Trump announced that the Pentagon has selected Cleveland, Ohio, as the site for a new U.S. Navy submarine component repair center. The facility is expected to span 46,000 square feet and will be used to manufacture, repair, and maintain parts for most new and existing submarines.
The decision follows a national security memorandum issued by the president in August, which directed the Navy and defense secretaries to establish a center capable of receiving new and refurbishing old components to support the submarine industrial base. The selection criteria emphasized locations with proximity to major road, rail, and river access.
Jerry Hendrix, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget’s shipbuilding office, stated that the center will help address the significant maintenance backlog for fast attack boats. Trump credited Senator John Husted with advocating for the selection of Ohio for this project.
