Penticton crews fix intersection deficiencies for school buses

Construction crews in Penticton are working to correct deficiencies at the intersection of Eckhardt Avenue and Main Street following a $5.5 million infrastructure project. The modifications are necessary because school buses have struggled to navigate the reworked site near Penticton Secondary School since changes were implemented last month.

City spokesperson Anna Melnick stated that a review confirmed certain elements on the northeast corner were not constructed according to the approved design. Crews are working between October 5 and October 9 to improve the turning radius for buses and modify the school driveway to facilitate better bus egress. The city noted that these corrective works are being completed within the existing project budget.

Penticton Secondary School has advised parents of traffic pattern changes, suggesting that families use Ellis Street to access the school parking lot or drop students off near the Penticton Public Library to reduce congestion.
