Penzberg Islamic Friday‑Prayer Sign Vandalised for Second Time

In the Bavarian town of Penzberg a newly installed sign directing visitors to the Islamic community’s Friday‑prayer services was spray‑painted with black paint for the second time within a week. The sign, described by Imam Benjamin Idriz as a unique nationwide gesture of religious coexistence, was placed at the town’s main entrances alongside existing Catholic and Protestant signs. Police (Kriminalpolizei) seized the defaced sign and opened an investigation, but have not identified any suspects. Authorities have appealed for witnesses. The community reported receiving both threatening messages and expressions of solidarity on social media. Mayor Thomas Kopf, together with local church leaders, affirmed the sign’s purpose of mutual respect and equal treatment of all faiths.
