Penzberg signs for Muslim Friday prayers vandalized for third time

Signs indicating Muslim Friday prayer services in Penzberg, Germany, have been vandalized for the third time in several weeks. During the night of August 20 to August 21, 2026, three signs in the town were sprayed with light-colored paint.

The Islamic Community of Penzberg condemned the acts, stating that the town stands for peaceful and respectful coexistence. The community expressed hope that those responsible for these criminal actions would be held accountable.

The signs were originally installed on July 21 as a joint initiative by local religious and political leaders, including Mayor Thomas Kopf, Catholic Pastor Bernhard Holz, Protestant Pastor Julian Lademann, and Imam Benjamin Idriz. The project was intended to serve as a symbol of mutual appreciation and religious freedom. This latest incident follows previous acts of vandalism involving black paint on July 25 and graffiti on July 31. Local police are currently investigating the matter.
