Penzing political parties demand assembly over park redesign
Political parties in the Penzing district, including the ÖVP, FPÖ, and Neos, are jointly demanding a citizens' assembly regarding the redesign of the 2,400-square-meter H. -C. -Artmann-Park.
The opposition parties argue that local residents and business owners have not been sufficiently informed about the project. They have criticized the lack of transparency regarding the 1.7 million euro budget and the significant changes to the area, which include expanding the park into street spaces and removing existing parking spots.
District Chair Michaela Schüchner of the SPÖ defended the project, stating it has long been a flagship model for citizen participation. The redesign, which includes new greenery, a watercourse, and updated sports facilities, is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
