People Against SIR calls for nationwide march over voter list revisions
The ‘People Against SIR’ platform has called for a nationwide march on October 23 to protest the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. The group is demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar through parliamentary processes and the cancellation of the SIR, alleging that the revision has stripped 134.1 million citizens of their right to vote. The platform claims that statutory forms were altered without parliamentary approval to benefit the ruling party.
In Delhi, the Chief Electoral Officer is conducting a special campaign to update voter lists, particularly in areas affected by redevelopment or demolition, such as Bela Estate and Narela. Booth Level Officers are verifying records to address errors, deaths, and duplicate entries. According to recent data, 230,165 Form-6 applications have been received during the claims and objections period. The official voter list revision process is scheduled to conclude with the publication of the final list on December 4, 2026.
