People Power Party adds ethics committee member amid disciplinary debate
The ruling People Power Party (국민의힘) appointed an additional member to its central ethics committee, expanding the nine‑person body to its maximum size. The move, approved after a meeting of senior party officials in the National Assembly, is intended to enable the party to resume disciplinary proceedings that were stalled following the June 3 local elections.
Party spokesperson Choi Bo‑yoon said the appointment reflects a consensus among senior party leaders that the ethics committee should have sufficient members to handle pending cases. The party emphasized that the new appointment does not signal a shift in policy toward any particular faction, and that disciplinary actions will be carried out according to established principles and standards.
The decision comes as the party faces ongoing internal tensions over previous calls for sanctions against certain members, with the leadership insisting that any disciplinary measures must be taken carefully and in line with party regulations.
