People Power Party attacks administration over DMZ landmine accident

The People Power Party is intensifying its criticism of the Lee Jae-myung administration regarding a recent landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) near the Military Demarcation Line in Paju. Party leaders allege that the government is intentionally delaying field investigations to avoid provoking North Korea.

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok stated that public anger is reaching a breaking point, suggesting that the administration's perceived focus on North Korean sensibilities over national security is a cause for impeachment. He characterized the alleged delay in investigating the incident, which resulted in injuries to soldiers, as a potential act of treason.

Other party members, including Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik and spokesperson Park Seong-hun, accused the government of a “deceptive excuse” regarding the investigation delay. They argued that the lack of immediate action allows evidence of North Korean involvement to be lost. The opposition is demanding a clear explanation of the circumstances surrounding the explosion and the military's refusal to allow immediate field inspections by the UN Command.
