People Power Party demands Jang Dong-hyuk resign over re‑election claim

Senior members of South Korea's opposition People Power Party, organized under the group "Alternative and Future," publicly called for party leader Jang Dong-hyuk to step down. They argued that Jang's insistence on a new intra‑party election after the recent local elections is legally and practically impossible and violates the party's democratic procedures. The faction demanded a secret parliamentary caucus vote to gauge members' stance and urged top party officials, including the highest‑ranking senior leaders, to make decisive moves to end the turmoil.

Party leadership, represented by senior figure Cho Gwang‑han, rebuffed the criticism, labeling the calls for Jang's resignation as "petty" and accusing the dissenting group of destabilising the party for their own political gain. The clash highlights rising factional tensions within the ruling right‑wing party ahead of future electoral contests.
