People Power Party lawmaker Seo Beom-su faces ethics committee action over controversial remarks

People Power Party (PPP) lawmakers are under scrutiny after a series of controversial statements. Lawmaker Seo Beom-su was criticized for referencing the "Busan kick" incident during a court hearing, prompting the party’s central ethics committee to consider strict disciplinary measures. Party officials said the remarks were “highly inappropriate” and called for a formal ethics review.

Separately, PPP member Ahn Cheol-soo condemned the government’s proposed tax reform, labeling it a “Koryeojang” plan that would force elderly homeowners in Seoul’s Gangnam district to sell their high‑value properties. Ahn argued the changes would disproportionately target 60‑ and 70‑year‑old residents, increase property taxes, and limit tax deductions, effectively pushing them out of the capital.

Both incidents highlight internal tensions within the ruling party over public statements and policy proposals.
