People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok criticizes Lee administration

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok addressed a large crowd at Seoul Olympic Park on Liberation Day, intensifying criticism of the Lee Jae-myung administration. Jang accused the government of attempting to pursue a constitutional amendment for term extensions to facilitate dictatorship, asserting that protecting suffrage is essential to defending liberal democracy.

The rally saw significant participation from approximately 20 current lawmakers and party officials. This surge in visible support coincides with the upcoming appointment of a special prosecutor for the National Election Commission, which is expected to launch investigations early next month.

In a separate critique, former lawmaker Yoo Seong-min challenged Jang's leadership style, warning against the party becoming a private organization for the leader. Yoo emphasized that the People Power Party must focus on winning public sentiment, particularly in the metropolitan areas, rather than internal party loyalty, to succeed in future elections.
