People Power Party opposes constitutional amendment talks

The People Power Party has expressed strong opposition to discussions regarding constitutional amendment following a reported golf meeting between President Lee Jae-myung and senior party members. The opposition party demands that President Lee first provide a clear assurance that he will not seek to extend his term or seek re-election before any constitutional talks can proceed.

Opposition leaders, including Kim Seung-soo, have criticized the administration, suggesting that discussions regarding a decentralized presidential system might be a tactic to maintain power through a powerful prime minister. Furthermore, the People Power Party stated that constructive constitutional debate is impossible until the five ongoing criminal trials against President Lee are addressed, arguing that current constitutional protections are being misused to stall legal proceedings.
